Official Rules

Blitzball Rules:

-In Blitzball style, there is a strike zone, a hit line, and a homerun fence or line.

-Each team consists of one or more players.

-The number of innings should be decided by the teams.

Pitching

-The pitcher must throw the ball from in front of the strike zone and behind the hit line.

-The pitcher can strike a batter out in three strikes or walk a batter in four --balls.

-A strike will be called if the ball hits the strike zone in the air or if the batter swings without making contact with the ball.

-A ball will be called if the ball does not hit the strike zone or bounces before hitting the strike zone and the batter does not swing.

-If a ball is hit foul, a strike will be counted unless the batter already has two strikes; the batter may hit an unlimited number of foul balls.

-If a batter hits a foul that continues to directly hit the strike zone and already has two strikes, it will be deemed a strikeout.

-Any member of the defensive team may pitch without limit of pitch count or innings pitched.

-Pitchers may be relieved with no limit.

-If a pitcher strikes out a batter he will be rewarded a “K”.

Batting

-The batter must stand in front and to one side of the strike zone.

-The batter may swing at any pitch.

-If a batter gets three strikes, he will be called out and the next batter will be up.

-The batting team must adhere to the lineup with no exception.

-There is no base running in Blitzball.

-If a batter gets walked, a ghost runner is assigned to first base and any base runners will move forward one base.

Scoring

-A team scores when a ghost runner is moved around all four bases.

-A ghost runner is put on base either by walking or by a hit.

-If a batter hits the ball past the hit line, he will be awarded a “hit” and a runner on first.

-If a batter hits the ball to or past the homerun line or to the homerun fence, he will be awarded a “double” and a ghost runner on second.

-If a batter hits the ball in the air over the homerun fence or line, he will be awarded a “Homerun” and no ghost runners be assigned.

-All runners will move the same number of bases as the batter according to the assigned hit.

-Any runner that scores on any hit will be counted as an “RBI” for the batter (including the batter if he scores on his own hit).

-Any runner that scores in an instance of a walk counts as a run but not as an RBI.

-Any strikeout will be counted against the batter.

-The team that has the most runs at the end of the game wins.

Defense

-The defensive team can retire the side by getting three outs.

-Strikeouts count as outs.

-Catching any hit ball in the air (fair or foul) counts as an out.

Double Play

-Any ball caught by a defensive player and immediately thrown to hit the strike zone in the air will count as a double play regardless of runners on base.
